In March 2024 I gave a presentation to the Michigan Environmental Health Association food meeting in Port Huron Michigan, about behavioral health and its impact on food safety.

I’ve never been satisfied with the traditional explanations of why food service operators do not comply with the food law. That explanation goes something like ‘noncompliance is a deliberate decision – recalcitrance’. In my mind the explanation is much more complicated and involves an understanding of human behavior and behavioral health.

This talk was oriented to sanitarians and environmental health but it might be relevant to anyone interested in food safety. I urge you to view the pdf file attached and give me your thoughts
